1. General Rules

2. Competition Rules

  • The latest official patch will be used in the tournament. Be sure to update your client before packing at home.

  • If there is a discussion between both teams regarding the tournament, at least one representative of each team will have to come to the compo desk and explain the problem to the Age of Empires 2:HD Edition admins. They will decide what to do.

2.1 Compo overview

2.2 Sign in

  • Players must have an active Steam account with a legal copy of Age of Empires 2: HD Edition on it. Please notice that further expansions are not necessary to participate.

  • Players have to register their username + identifier when they sign up for the Age of Empires competition. Furthermore, please add your current ELO when you sign-up. Please note that ‘ELO Dropping’ or ‘smurfing’ to get a better seeding is not allowed.

  • All players have to join the ‘FoM Compo AoE2’ Steam Group. Most of the communication between the admins and the players will happen through News Posts in this group. In case of issues joining this group, contact an admin in-game.

  • When checking in, don’t forget to give your seat numbers, this will help you find your opponent or your opponent finding you in case of an AFK.

  • You can sign up for this competition as a team (2 persons) or as an individual. If you choose to sign up as an individual you will be randomly allocated to any other player who choose to sign up individually.

2.2.1 Schedule

  • Final check in at Saturday 9:00.

  • Double Elimination bracket play starts at Saturday 10:00

10:00 – 11:30      Round 1 (ro16)

12:00 – 13:30      Round 2 (ro8 + loser brackets round 1)

14:00 - 15:30       Round 3 (ro4 + loser brackets round 2)

16:00 - 17:30        Final winner bracket & loser brackets round 3

19:00 - 20:30        Final loser brackets

21:00 - 23:30       Grand Finals (Best of 3)

 

2.2.2 Submitting results

  • Scores will be admitted through the Frag-o-Matic website (www.fom.be). If an admin is available scores can be submitted through them as well.

2.3 Compo Rules

Before the match

  • Players must be online and available at the designated times of their match. A 15 minute grace period applies.

  • If only one player of a team is available after the grace period expired, he can choose to play the game alone. If the missing player is available for any later game in the same series, he is allowed to play.

  • All teams must show initiative to contact their opponent. If your opponent is not responding in-game, the seatmap must be used to physically contact your opponents. In case of an AFK, the admin must be notified.

  • While playing a tournament game it is required to switch your status to “busy”. If you get caught with another status you’ll get a warning.

  • The team with the highest (ELO) ranking player hosts the tournament game. When the game gets live streamed it will be hosted by a registered live streamer or an admin. They will invite both teams.

  • The ladder map pool will be used:

    • Black Forrest (Explored map & fast speed)

    • Continental

    • Gold Rush

    • Fortress (played in Regicide mode)

    • Migration

    • Nomad

    • Oasis

    • Team Island

During the match

  • No unapproved programs may be running during any matches. Acceptable programs may be determined by an admin, but generally include: music, hardware monitoring, antivirus.

  • Players may not communicate with anyone during their game besides their teammate, opponents and admins.

  • The use of mods from the Steam Workshop is allowed

  • In case of a drop a rematch will be played.

  • Pauses for issues not related to either connection or hardware are not allowed. Pausing the game without a valid reason will result in a warning.

  • Players are allowed to chat in a tournament game. They’ll have to do this in a proper way and do it with good sportsmanship. Inappropriate chatter will result in a warning.

 

After the match

  • Both teams must submit and confirm the result of a match. This can be done on the website or through an admin.

  • Replays must be provided to an admin when requested. If a reply cannot be provided a rematch will take place.

 

Scheduling issues

  • You are allowed to play in multiple compos. For example, if you want play in both the Age of Empires 2 compo and any other compo that is fine. 

  • You are allowed to play games ahead of schedule. However, if doing so results in delaying or messing up the schedule of another compo, walkovers are the player’s own responsibility!

 

Disconnect / Leaves

  • In case of a player disconnecting the resume from the save and exit function will be used, unless an admin can confirm that 1 team was severely ahead in which case a win will be awarded. If the resume from replay function cannot be used for any reason a rematch will be played.

  • In case of internet, Steam or hardware issues the game can be paused. If after a pause the issue is not resolved, the game will be resumed from replay or a rematch will take place.

 

Cheating

  • Any form of cheating will not be tolerated. If an admin determines a player is cheating their team will be immediately disqualified and removed from the tournament and the offending player may be restricted from participating in future events.

  • Seeing your opponent’s monitor is also considered cheating.

  • Collusion and Match Fixing: players are not allowed to intentionally alter the results of any match. If an admin determines matches were fixed, the offending player(s) will be immediately disqualified and removed from the tournament and may be restricted from participating in future events. Players must compete to the best of their abilities at all times (fair play!).

 

Observers

  • Compo admins and registered livestreamers can at all times request to join a tournament game. Other observers are only allowed when both players agree. Inviting unwanted observers will result in a warning.

  • Observer who slow down the game or have connection issues must leave the game as soon as possible. Tournament games with observers leaving for whatever reason will not be replayed because of it.

 

Other.

  • A player who received 2 warnings will be disqualified from the tournament. All unplayed matches of a disqualified player will be forfeited.

 

3. Compo Structure

Map Choice: One of the maps from the map pool will be chosen by the team with the lower seeding.

Brackets: Double elimination best of 1. Teams will be seeded by the admins.

Grand Finals: Best of 3
